What is the best research resource?

The article I chose to analyze was a little difficult to research. The only thing I could think of to research was the number of people that have drowned in the last couple of years on Current River in Van Buren, Missouri, which was the river that the boy drowned in in my article. I found that within the last three years, that there has been a total of four drowning’s according to KFVS. However, I also found that out of these four drowning’s, that another victim got tangled in a root ball and could not get free, resulting in him drowning. This is what happened to the boy in my article that I am analyzing as well.

When I used Kent Library to find information on drowning’s in Current River, I was unable to find anything. With that being said, the internet or KFVS was the best resource for me to use on this topic.

  1. Ashley,
In my line of work (inland rivers marine associate) I see this time and time again. A lot of the boating accidents, drownings or anything of that nature sometimes rarely gets reported. The Current River in Van Buren being a smaller tributary may not yield the documented research say like what I do. And even so, you rarely see a lot of the accidents published that I have known about. Being out here, I have a totally different view of water, water safety and respecting ANY river. I also took a marine safety course last semester that taught me a little more on the river itself, but my experience has taught me enough. I would suggest that you do try to refine your research to Missouri Highway Patrol water patrol (although they may not do this for Current River) or just the highway patrol. Some of these smaller communities on the rivers do turn over a lot of some of these issues to the state highway due to not having the resources. If it was a larger river, I could give you ample information to do your research. Good luck.

  2. Ashley,
I struggled with finding information on my topic using the Kent Library as well. There was very little information regarding what I was researching, and none of the information I was able to find related to my topic. The internet was the best source for me. I prefer the internet for the wide range of sources.
