I will take what I learned from this class and use it to
help me write future papers. I will be taking English composition 2 next
semester and this class will help me understand things better. I learned a lot of
things from this class that I never even heard of until now such as the
Rogerian Argument and naysayers. I enjoyed writing the blogs and think that
will help me on the future as well by seeing several other people’s comments on
things. I also believe that this class has helped me with my vocabulary and the
way I have a daily conversation with others. This class had a few assignments
that others that have taken an English class had not heard of as well so I believe
that will be an advantage for me when I take future English composition
classes.
I enjoyed this class although I do not like English
and definitely not a fan of writing papers. I did not know how well I was going
to do taking an English class online but I will have to say that it was not as
bad as I had expected.

Negative Naysayers
.
My paper is about Munchausen Syndrome by proxy which is when the parent, usually the mother, exaggerates and fabricates illness or symptoms on their child. The parent does this for attention from higher up professionals such as the nurses and doctors. The child is put through tests and procedures that are not necessary and could cause additional problems and even death.
I do not think that anyone could say that Münchausen syndrome by proxy is a good thing so with that being said I will definitely be arguing that this syndrome needs to be addressed more since it is a rare condition and there is not much research on it. I believe that are more people in this world with this condition that we are aware of. I think it needs to be made aware of so that doctors and nurse can be on the look out for people with this condition.
I hope I am understanding the 'naysayer' concept correctly and that I will be able to complete this final assignment appropriately.

Explaining the arguing assignment.
In the Rogerian
argument assignment I will need to provide information about my topic and then argue
whether I agree or disagree with my topic or if I think it is beneficial or
harming to society. This assignment allows us to write in other points of view
rather than our own. Everyone has their own opinion so not everyone will agree
with the way I will choose to argue my topic.
Therefore
the way I will complete this assignment is to try to find additional information
on my topic and then argue that the syndrome from my topic is very harmful to
the victim but also very alarming to the perpetrator as well. This is a rare
condition and does not have a lot of research on it so I will also argue that
this condition needs to be addressed more and made known to society more in
depth so that physicians can identify this syndrome easier if they come in
contact with it. I will also use naysayers to help with arguing part of this
assignment.
I have
never heard of naysayers or a Rogerian argument until now and hope that I am
able to complete this assignment appropriately.

Reviewing my research assignment
So I thought this paper was going to be easier to write but I came across some difficulties. I had numerous amounts of information but it was pretty well all same since my topic is a rare condition. I chose a topic related to the healthcare field since nursing is what I will be majoring in. I enjoyed learning about Munchausen syndrome by proxy but wish there was more information about it. With that being said I was short on the word requirement. Hopefully I will have better luck on the Rogerian assignment for coming up with enough words.

Munchausen syndrome by proxy
My topic is on Munchausen syndrome by proxy. This is a rare condition when a parent or caregiver falsifies the child's symptoms, changes test results to make the child sicker physically harms the child to produce symptoms. The caregiver has a psychological disorder that causes them to do this. This is very dangerous to the child. The caregiver usually has medical skills or experience, seems devoted to the child, looks for sympathy and attention, and tries too hard to become close with the medical staff.
The child can have life long complications from this such as depression and anxiety. The victim suffers through unnecessary tests, surgeries, or other procedures for no reason that can cause more harm when not needed. This can lead to death. It has been reported that the caregiver has added blood or protein to a urine specimen or injected the child with bacteria to cause an infection. Doctors and nurses may suspect a problem when a child has a repeated or unusual illness and no reason can be found.

Oh C.R.A.P!
No one wants to read a document that the
appearance is poor. Not only is the rhetoric important in a document but so is
the appearance. In Rundle’s article he explains the importance of C.R.A.P.,
contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity.
When designing a
document the contrast which includes the background color, font size and style,
and the correct spacing plays a key role. Elements that are not the same should
stand out. If the font size and style are the same throughout then it is going
to be hard to distinguish between what goes together and what is more
important.
Repetition
allows the reader to follow the paper by repeating styles down the page.
Who wants to
read a paper that has sentences all over the page? Alignment needs to be well
thought of when writing a paper. If you have some stuff left aligned and then
the other right aligned then once again the reader is not going to be able to
follow the document very well. Alignment
gives the reader the maximum effect and the message across.
Proximity is
when elements that are related are grouped together. The reader should be able
to glance at a page and immediately know which elements are together and which
are separate.

Dog's and their behaviors.
I chose
to read an article out of the National Geographic on how Purina researchers
have been doing a project for five years on dog’s behaviors and how external
factors play a role not only negatively but also positively on the dog. Dr.
Martin, the head researcher, has found out that even when a dog might be happy
that its heart rate, body temperature, hormones, and other measures can change.
Dr.
Martin uses ethos and logos by stating that he is an animal behavioral
scientist and he has physically observed the behaviors of the dogs during
different situations.
The
writing of the article I believe is done well. He uses transitions and gives you
examples. The article tries to persuade you by telling you to use your smart
phone and a willing cinematographer to experience the behavior of the dog while
you are preparing and presenting food to the dog. I was persuaded by this
article because I have a dog of my own and have witnessed some of the things
mentioned. For instance my dog has a different bark when our neighbor’s dog
comes in our yard. I know my dog is happy when he sees this dog but yet his
heart rate does increase because I have felt it before.
I think
the article could have been longer and presented more details, such as other
experiments they have participated in and the outcomes.

Truth about Politicians.
In
Kevin Kruse’s essay “The Real Loser: Truth” it
explains how all the politicians bend the truth to get more votes to win an
election. It also talks about how they use attack ads against each other so
that people will not vote for them only finding out once again that these are
all lies. Also it explains four factors since the 1970s that have lowered the cost
for politicians who lie and repeat their fabrications through their attack ads.
These four factors are the decline in respect for institutions and
professionals, changes in media regulation and ownership, political operatives
realized they had more room to stretch the truth, and lastly that most news
organizations abandoned their roles as political referees.
My
reaction to this article is that I believe all this is true and already knew
that politicians lie and make up stuff about other politicians to get the
public to not vote for the other people. I probably should not admit to this but
it is my personal decision and the way I feel about all these politicians. I do
not vote because I believe that no matter what any of these politicians say they
will not do what they say they will do. They only say these things to get your
vote.

The Control of Technology
I anticipate that technology does not control our lives unless
you allow it. I stated in my previous blog about how I am attached to my cell
phone. Even though I have a clock in my room I still tend to look at my phone
for the time sometimes. Whenever I am watching television I will grab my phone
when a commercial comes on. I would not consider this to be controlling my life
but I would have to agree that it is a start.
Ultimately in the healthcare setting technology is controlling
but it is for the patients safety. The way we utilize other technology on our
personal time should be controlled by you.
Technology and Thinking
Technology is a great thing but yet
can be a bad thing at the same time. I do believe that with all the advanced
technology products that this has put peoples thinking to a minimum, at least
it has mine.
For example I would be so lost without
my cell phone. I use it for everything such as a calculator, surfing the web,
checking my email, and for a planner. Cell phones use to be just for making
calls but now have almost any and everything possible on them that you would
need. I also tend to do a lot of texting instead of calling someone. I think it’s
much easier to send a message and get your answer instead of having to talk to the
person.
However with all of these social media
sites available, such as Facebook, it gives people the opportunity to reconnect
with old friends which is a good thing but sometimes can turn into something
bad. I have a friend that is getting stalked by someone she doesn’t even know
and has blocked him but he still finds a way to find her.
