Paraphrasing and Analyzing at its best.

Amanda Layton expresses the emotional effects that were left with her after witnessing a boy trying to be rescued after he was taken under water and trapped. She is amazed by all the effort and love everyone gave to try to save this young man. She wanted his mother “to his mother to know he left the world surrounded by care, compassion and prayer, and we wept for him and for her and for all the others who lost him.” (Layton) According to Layton, this tragedy has given a different perspective on how people will come together in an emergency situation.

When I analyze this article, I will begin by giving a summary so that my audience has an idea of what the actual article is about. Constructing a powerful thesis statement next will provide information to my readers as to what to expect throughout my paper. I will then analyze the immediate context, such as who the author and audience are and identify the genre. I will not only do research on my topic but on my author as well. Discovering ethos, pathos, and logos and then giving examples of each will be part of my analyzing. Deciding if the article is formal or informal in style will also be described. Context lexical ties and the flow of the paper will be closely monitored throughout this paper and I hope I accomplish that.

  1. Ashley, Your choice of articles to review is quite moving. I appreciate the obvious pathos in her emotional comments to the mother of the lost child. You broke down the assignment quite nicely and I see you have a firm understanding of what you hope to accomplish in your essay. In my choice of articles I chose one that was trying to persuade the audience's opinion on a matter. I am looking forward to seeing the direction your author will take in their moving article.

  2. Ashley-
This sounded like amazing article, one that I couldn't have made it through without shedding a tear. I think that the emotionally based articles are the easiest to analyze. Good job on your explanation .Keep up the good work!
